Group Hangouts are back! And we’ve shipped a whole lot more…
Meet up with more than one person at a time, take control of your profile photos, and get ready for a new walkthrough that will make exploring Couchsurfing even easier.
One thing we heard from the community again and again was that meeting one person at a time wasn’t always enough. Sometimes you just want to gather a group and see who shows up. So we brought Group Hangouts back, and while we were at it, we made a whole bunch of improvements across the app.
Here’s what’s new:
Group Hangouts are here
See who’s around and create a Hangout that anyone nearby can join. No more coordinating one person at a time.
Heading to your favorite café, a park, or anywhere else? Create a Group Hangout, give it a name, add a location, and invite others to join. Or browse Hangouts that are already happening nearby and jump right in.
Whether you’re looking to explore a new city, grab a coffee, or meet fellow Couchsurfers, getting people together is now easier than ever.
No more bad photos
You can now edit every photo on your profile right in the app. Just go to Profile > Edit > Edit Photos, then move, zoom, and reposition each photo until it’s framed exactly the way you want.

We know it hasn’t always been obvious where to go or what to do next. That’s why we’re launching a new walkthrough for both the app and website next week to help you get started and discover everything Couchsurfing has to offer from the moment you arrive.
Everything else we tightened up
Login, fixed. We resolved the login issues many of you ran into and streamlined the login flow to make it faster and more reliable.
Contact and calendar sync, improved. Sync your contacts to find friends who are already on Couchsurfing, and sync your calendar to automatically detect upcoming trips. It’s the fastest way to discover your people and start making plans.
A cleaner feed. We simplified the feed to make it easier to browse and easier to understand why you’re seeing each post. With so much happening across the community, it’s now easier to keep up with what matters to you.
Chat and stay requests, smoother. You can now decline a stay request without ending the conversation. Sometimes a host can’t accommodate a stay but still wants to offer advice, grab a coffee, or stay in touch.
Hundreds of improvements behind the scenes. Over the past month we’ve shipped hundreds of bug fixes and performance improvements to make Couchsurfing faster, more reliable, and easier to use every day.
What’s next
The new app and website walkthrough arrives next week. In the meantime, update your app to get Group Hangouts, photo editing, and all of the improvements above.
