Best breakfast in Nicosia…
Home for Co-operation Cafe in the Green Line (the UN buffer zone that separates Nicosia). The food is tasty and cheap!
1 museum not to miss…
Leventis Municipal Museum. It’s a museum in Nicosia, about Nicosia. One of the few museums in the world dedicated to the history of a single city – in this case one that is 8000 years old. And, it won the EuroMuseum Award in 1991!
Best place to grab a drink…
Any of the traditional cafe-bars in the old city, close to the Green Line:
Kala Kathoumena, Halara, Imagine, or Hoi Polloi are all great!
Best view in the city…
The Observatory at the top of Shakolas Tower, on Ledra Street in the Old City.
Where to dance…
Aperitivo Club, for modern dance. Any tavern in the old city for traditional dance!
The perfect picture in Nicosia…
Walk around at the paved streets of the old city and take a pic with one of the lazy cats sitting at the cafeterias (which tourists usually don’t dare to move in order to take their seat…)
Best day trip out of Nicosia…
Any place in Cyprus fits this description – my country is that small :). I would suggest any village in the Troodos Mountain Range, the city and region of Kyrenia (Girne) OR Ayia Napa!
One experience NOT TO MISS…
Cross the Green Line and experience how similar and different the people and places are in the different sides of the last divided capital city in Europe.
Where to try the local cuisine…
‘Zanettos Tavern‘, in the ‘within-the-walls’ area.
Best historic site…
In an 8000 year old city, it is a bit hard to choose, but I would say to pay a visit at the Cathedral of Agia Sophia, now turned to a mosque, where the French Kings and Queens of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia used to be crowned.
One thing to be careful of…
Classic: If you order a taxi, make sure the driver tells you the cost of the ride before you enter the vehicle. If is too much, don’t hesitate to let them go and call another one.
