Product Update: Introducing the Host Calendar!

Update February 21, 2017: This feature is now available on Android devices as well as iOS.

Here at Couchsurfing HQ, we want to help you coordinate your next life-changing, unforgettable Couchsurfing experience easily and efficiently. We understand that your life is busy, and you don’t want to have to constantly decline requests on dates that you cannot host. To that end, we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on recently – your Couchsurfing Host Calendar.

We recently asked a few thousand hosts why they decline requests, and learned that the single largest reason Couch Requests are declined is because the host is busy, whether they have other plans, are travelling themselves, or are already hosting surfers.

This is frustrating to the host, who keeps receiving requests they cannot accept. It’s frustrating to the surfers, who, even with the most perfect request and the most complete profile, may not have a chance of being accepted for reasons they couldn’t foresee. The Host Calendar gives you more control over the requests you receive, and ensures that you’ll only receive requests when you are able to host.

Right now, this feature is only available on Couchsurfing mobile applications for iOS and Android devices. Tap the Couch icon in the lower bar of the Couchsurfing app. You’ll see your Hosting calendar, where your upcoming guests will be displayed, along with your hosting status.

To block off dates you are not able to host, simply tap on the date and you’ll see the date become unavailable. Plans get cancelled? No problem – just tap on the date again to make it available again. If you need to block off an entire week, drag your finger along the whole row to mark the entire week as unavailable.

In the next coming months, we’ll make adjustments based on your feedback and bring the Host Calendar to the rest of the Couchsurfing community. If you have any feedback about the calendar or anything else, please share your feedback here.

  1. Your profile acts as your face to the Couchsurfing community. It’s how Hosts decide whether they’d like to host you, who they’ll expect to see at the Event you’ve joined, etc. Read More

  2. Excellent, have been looking forward to this feature. I don’t have iOS so looking forward to getting this on the main website + Android.

  3. These are great news! I have been waiting for this for a long time. I think it will be a great improvement!!

  4. This is great!!! Hurry and get it onto the main website — I might guess many TRAVELERS are using their IOS apps, but many hosts might be working from home computers/laptops – calendars are quite useful for hosts juggling many requests. This is a good improvement – hurry and get it onto the main website too!!!
    Thanks!

  5. To Whom It May Concern ,

There is a suggestion that I want to convey , but I don’t know where can I send to your website . So I leave a reply here . I hope you can change “COUNTRIES I’VE VISITED ” to “COUNTRIES AND REGIONS I’VE VISITED ” . This title is not accurate . Because Hong Kong and Macau are absolutely NOT countries ! They are a part of China ! Moreover , Taiwan is a controversial region . For most China mainland people and some Taiwanese think Taiwan is a province of China . Please think of the feeling of Chinese and respect our country’s national condition .

I would be more than happy if my suggestion could be considered .

    Your sincerely

  6. If there’s any coincidence with airbnb it’s just casuality! You damm idiots.. you destroied this wonderfull website. Why you dont just sell this to airbnb? it’d be easier and you’d make more money!

  7. I used the calendar in my iOS app, identifying which days were available but did not see how to save this… there was no save button that I saw..
i personally would like to see this work for one to three months at a time instead of the whole year… too busy to put my whole year on this calendar..
    cheers..

  8. Hi!
That’s amazing you add “Available Nights to host” option!
However, I can’t see the calendar to block off dates. Is it because I’ on iOs 7.1.2 ?

    Thanks

  9. Hi
This is really something I have been looking forward to. I’m sure it will be a success.
    Thank you
    Regards Hanne

  10. ….not to be full already or whatever…frustrating is that you guys make no steps forward to make members understandable about what Couchsurfing was…

Thanks to all stupid efforts now you have millions of 0-10reference..using their profile once a year for free vacations….

    So naive..

  11. You need to get rid of all people that have not responded in 1 year.
People who have responded should be listed in order of the the most current to the last. 364 days.
For a traveler to go threw the list of non responders to get to a host that is responding is unfair

  12. I have wanted this for a long time. It is a very helpful addition. I look forward to it being integrated into the website as well.

    Thanks!

    David
