Couchsurfer Hosted 120 People & Traveled the World for 1,000 Days

Tomislav Perko, 30, had a career as a stockbroker. After quitting his job during the financial crisis in 2008, he decided to hit the road and become a travel writer. In 1,000 days of travel, Tomislav managed to wander around the world with just a little bit of money in his pocket by Couchsurfing, hitchhiking, and volunteering along the way.

Before he started traveling, Tomislav experienced Couchsurfing as a host – hosting 120 people in his home city of Zagreb, Croatia. And during his adventure, Tomislav Couchsurfed in every country he visited, including Iraq, Pakistan, Mauritius, Malawi, and more.

Tomislav was so inspired by his journey that he gave a TEDx talk. In the 18 minute clip, he explores what worked, what didn’t, and how you can explore the world without breaking the bank.
